What a local food platform has to handle
A platform that sells for several farms at once runs on a weekly rhythm. Farms publish what they will have and how much, customers order before a fixed cut-off, and on distribution day every bag has to reach the right pickup point or front door. The software has to keep stock counts right so nobody orders carrots that were never lifted.
Each group needs its own view. Customers want to see the producer, the unit, the price including VAT and the delivery fee before they order. Farms want the week's orders as a list they can harvest and pack from, not as a chain of messages. The coordinator or driver needs a route with pickup times that hold.
Behind that sit cut-off times in Finnish time, order changes until the cut-off, payments and payouts to each farm, and a clear record of who ordered what.
How the Satosilta demo works
Satosilta is a fictional platform for farms around Hämeenlinna, made by Virtueinfo to show what we build. A countdown in Finnish time shows how long ordering stays open, until Wednesday at 20:00. The shop lists products from eight farms with unit, price and remaining stock, which drops as you add items to the basket, and you can filter by vegan, organic, product group or farm.
At checkout you pick one of five pickup points, each with its own 20-minute window, or home delivery by postcode. Delivery costs €6.90 and is free when the products come to €60 or more. Payment is a marked placeholder. The order is kept in your browser and appears in the producer view with an orange label.
The producer view groups the week's orders by product and by pickup point, converts units into harvest kilograms with 5 % added for sorting, and prints a picking list and packing labels. On the routes screen you can move stops and watch arrival times and pickup windows recalculate, or let the demo reorder the route so the van always drives to the nearest stop next.
What a production build adds for a Finnish company
A live platform gives customers, farms and the coordinator their own accounts, with roles that decide who sees what. We connect a Finnish payment service and payouts to each farm, send order confirmations and pickup reminders by email or text message, and export sales to accounting. Farms that receive payouts can be verified with strong electronic identification.
Personal data is limited to what an order needs, with a privacy notice, retention times and account deletion handled as GDPR requires. Analytics starts only after consent. In an admin panel the coordinator manages farms, pickup points and order weeks, and an audit log records changes to orders, stock and prices.
The service runs in Finnish and English, or Swedish, and works with a keyboard and a screen reader. After launch we look after security updates, backups and monitoring, and a dedicated team that knows the code keeps developing it as more farms and pickup points join.
