What a directory operator needs from the software
A company directory is only as good as its data. The operator needs a daily import from the register that updates only the records that changed, shows the source and date of each fact, and copes with changes such as the move to a new industry classification. Searchers need fast filtering by municipality, industry and company form without signing in.
Companies need a way to claim their profile and add what the register does not hold, such as a description and opening hours, without being able to alter register facts. Developers and partners want the same data through an API with clear limits and licence terms. Open data comes with attribution rules, and the service must not look like the register authority's own.
How the Firmalyhty demo works
Search filters by municipality, industry and company form, sorts and pages the results, and keeps the search in the address so it can be shared as a link. Each profile has a register panel with Business ID, company form, main industry, register entries and the last change date, while the company's own description and hours are marked separately in another colour.
Claiming a profile takes four steps: choose the company and identify, confirm your role, edit the description and opening hours, then preview and publish. Identification is a labelled sample step and the result is saved only in your browser. The API page shows sample responses for search, a single company and a change feed, with rate limits and a try-it panel, and every profile has a developer JSON view.
The statistics page draws new companies per month and companies by industry and region as charts with tooltips and table views. Every company and Business ID is invented, and the IDs come from an unissued range with valid check digits.
What a production directory for a Finnish company adds
A real service imports the register's open data each night through its interface, compares last-modified dates and keeps a history of changes. We add a search index that stays quick across the full data set, the attribution the licence requires, and routing from old industry codes to new ones. Other sources, such as your own member or customer records, can be joined where you have the right to use them.
Profile claiming uses strong electronic identification and checks the person's role in the company before anything is published. Administrators get moderation tools for company content, user and API key management, and audit logs of every change and approval. The API runs with keys, rate limits and usage reports.
Register data about companies can include personal data, so we plan GDPR handling with you: what is shown, how long it is kept and how removal requests are handled. The service runs in Finnish and English or Swedish, meets accessibility requirements and uses analytics only after consent. A dedicated team of ours looks after the import, security updates and monitoring.
